"Kim Myung Min Parts Ways with SIM Story Entertainment After 2 Years, Enters Free Agent Market"
Veteran actor Kim Myung Min has officially concluded his contract with SIM Story Entertainment & Media Group, stepping into the free agent market as of early June. The decision marks the end of a nearly two-year partnership that began in July 2023.
Born in 1972, Kim made his acting debut in 1996 as part of SBS’s sixth round of open recruitment. Over the decades, he has earned widespread recognition for his intense, versatile performances in acclaimed dramas such as Immortal Admiral Yi Sun-sin, Behind the White Tower, Beethoven Virus, Law School, and most recently, Your Honor. His notable film credits include My Love By My Side and the Detective K series.
His latest project, the ENA drama Your Honor, saw Kim take on a gritty new role as a gangster boss, acting opposite Son Hyun Joo. Known for his immersive approach to roles, Kim reportedly gained 8kg and even filmed smoking scenes despite being a non-smoker, highlighting his deep dedication to character work. The drama concluded on September 10, 2024, and marked his return to TV after three years since Law School in 2021.
Though fans are hopeful for a second season, Kim remained cautious in post-finale interviews, saying,
“There is no season two that surpasses season one.”
Meanwhile, co-star Son Hyun Joo expressed strong interest, even joking he’d take a pay cut to return.
Kim has already lined up his next project: a starring role in Park Hoon Jung’s upcoming film Tristes Tropiques. The movie will be Kim’s first film in five years following The Battle of Jangsari (2019), and it reunites him with Park, who directed him in V.I.P. (2017). The film's cast also includes Park Hae Soo, Lee Shin Young, and Park Yoo Rim.
SIM Story Entertainment & Media Group, originally known for producing programs like Find! Delicious TV and Dongchimi, ventured into actor management and drama production through their partnership with Kim. The company also represents Im Ye Jin and Han So Eun. Interestingly, Jeong Ae Yeon played Kim's on-screen wife in Your Honor.
An industry insider noted:
“Kim Myung Min’s return in Your Honor during his time with SIM Story was a major success. As he approaches his 30th anniversary in the industry, all eyes are on his next move.”
As one chapter closes, anticipation builds around where this acting powerhouse will head next.
